Got some yummy goodness in the mail yesterday.

Sonic X- Sonic X : Modern Hair Metal? Yup... this is fantastic...almost like a hard glam Nickelback... except more fun... fantastic... I was very pleased with this and only cost 2.38 + shipping.... a fantastic deal Very Happy Ok Let me say... This is going on the next roadtrip... yes I think it is that good.... a guitar solo in every song... great riffs... great singer. Very Dokkenish with a gruffer singer... so fucking good... listening now....

Cryonic Temple - In Thy Power: Remember Manowar... well so do these lads... fast in your face powermetal done right (not like Manowar now) with songs like When hell Freezes Over, Beast Slayer, Wolf Cryer and Eternal Flames Of Metal... so good thank you guys for picking up the standard and running with it Very Happy

Eldritch - Seeds Of Rage: This is their first cd reissued with 5 bonus tracks. Love it progressive melodic power metal... yes really pumping that throbbing vein of mine. I can tell this is a first cd... some of the time changes are a little clunky and lyrically a little overbearing at times... but despite all of that a fantastic band . Very accomplished musicianship (not Dream Theater but who is really) and a singer that knows that the deeper registers are ok to do with this genre (actually why I bought them) recommended if you enjoy this vein of music.

(THE SWORD---GODS OF THE EARTH)... American heavy metal band that formed in 2003. Gods of the Earth was the band's second album, released 2008. In 2009, The Sword won two local music awards: both the High Times Doobie Award and the Austin Music Award for Best Metal Artist. The band often uses Norse mythology as a topic in their lyrics. The band has cited Black Sabbath (the band they are most commonly compared to) as a major influence. They will open for headliners Motörhead at the 2010 edition of the South by Southwest Festival. Over all a good album in my opinion, nice and heavy but not too heavy! Two songs that really jumped out and smacked me across the face were "Fire Lance of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians" and "Maiden, Mother & Crone"

(THE DEADLIGHTS---THE DEADLIGHTS)...The Deadlights were a short lived Alternative metal/Nu Metal band out of Long Beach, California. The band released one self-titled album in 2000. Not a bad album, I think it will grow on me. I actually got it because of the songs I heard on youtube, which happen to be the most mellow of all the songs. My favorites were "Sweet Oblivion","Foolish Pride" and "Falling Down" which all have an early Smashing Pumpkin'ish sound.

(HIGH VOLUME---THE STONER ROCK COLLECTION)...I got this because of my growing interest in the DOOM/STONER metal genre as of late. (Plus a good compilation album is like a delicious buffet, you don't have to gorge yourself on any one thing but instead you get to sample all of the tasty side dishes in preparation for your next visit, and you'll always leave wanting more!!!), which is exactly what this album did for me!! It contains 14 tracks with such bands as Clutch, Orange Goblin, Corrosion of Conformity being the most familiar to me. Three of the tracks that got me wanting seconds were "Cities of the Dead" by SUPLECS and "Ride Out" by THE MYSTICK KREWE OF CLEARLIGHT, (both of which were instrumentals) and my favorite of the album "Willie Nelson" by CLUTCH!! Some other notables were (in my opinion of course), "So Bad" by BAD WIZARD and "Hello to Oblivion" by THE FORMULA.

(All---Mass Nerder)...This made ALLROY very sad when I heard this one, not bad but Not very good either. Bummer! Oh how I miss the vocal styling of Scott Reynolds Crying or Very sad and their music was much more catchy and groovalscious back then. They're still one of my ALL time favorites and I will continue to support them!! Gotta show the love!

Gilby Clarke - Gilby Clarke: After the episode (cannot remember which number) I realized their were 2 Gilby cds I did not have... this is one and it has Tijuana Jail on it... the song we played on Rock Dungeon. I have Gilby Clarke - Swag arriving next week. This is exactly what I expected and what I wanted... fantastic bluesy sleazy rock

Steve Vai - Sound Theories Vol 1 and 2: After watching Crossroads I needed to catch up on my Steve Vai... This is him playing with an orchestra. The man is amazing. Fantastic compositional skills...he is indeed a guitar god. Good for background listening much like classical... not good driving or intense listening music...but after listening to it my brain gained a couple points in IQ Laughing

Eldritch - Livequake: Wow... all I can say is WOW... holy shit have these guys come a long way. This is fantastic melodic progressive power metal. 2 live cds and a dvd with the entire show plus extras... I have not watched the dvd yet but I cannot wait til I can... probably tonight. If the show is as impressive as the music it will be mind blowing. Must go to Amazon and get the rest of their catalog

Little behind so lets catch up:

The Koffin Kats - The Koffin Kats ( more psychobilly then the new one. sounds like Mr. Oogie Boogie singing Tiger Army Songs. Pretty fucking Awesome)
Tony Cary - The Machine ( I'm a big fan of Tony Carey..from way back when..)
TYR - Eric The Red ( My Buddy got this for me... He is the greatest)
Calabrese - They Call Us Death ( Stay Tuned to The Rock Dungeon..Got Something To Tell Ya!)
Tank - Honour & Blood ( Great Band, I love Algy Ward)
Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe 2 ( I feel it is more like White Zombie then any of his other solo cd's)

Thats All for now .... sorry it took so long

Michael wrote:I love me some Bronx Casket Society... A lot better than the last couple Overkill cds (not sure about the new one have not heard it yet) I would be interested in Hazel I think... and with a name like Rumplestilkskin Grinder how can you not expect Thrash metal or at least Hardcore Punk. And what Pete Krebs cd should I get. If you were going to recommend 1 which would it be?

Yes with Rumpelstiltskin I should have known, but here are titles of the songs. You tell me if this sounds like thrash.

    Stealing E.T.
    Orange & Black Attack
Grab a Shovel (We've got bodies to bury)
The Day Merman Met Todd "The Harpoon" Wilson
    Unleash the Troll
    Grinder
    Let the fools cheer
    Ode to Tanks

Ok a couple I'll give you and I'll freely admit I don't have a lot of experience with this genre, but come on, these may just as well be titles to Weird Al Yankovic tunes.

As for a Pete Krebs recommendation, I would probably go with "Sweet Ona Rose", overall probably his best effort. If you are into jazz, "Hot Ginger and Dynamite" is a great album. I don't think you can go wrong with "Bittersweet Valentines" either although this is just a 6 song EP and only 3 of them are really strong.

I'm gonna need to hear some more Hazel before I start recommending them but I did like what I heard.

Can't wait to hear it. Can't believe I did not preorder this one. Gonna have to rectify that soon. Almost feel ashamed I only have the one Koffin Kats CD (the one you just got - Graveyard Tree is just incredible in my opinion). I guess I'm just hoping to get some of these at bargain barrel prices, which does not look like it is going to happen in the near future. Of everything I've bought in the last year I've got to say - Calabrese, Koffin Kats and The Creepshow are towards the top of my list. Well I guess money does grow on trees doesn't it, or is that the other way around.

New Calabrese is Great ( but don't order it yet....not yet tongue )

Mammoth--Leftovers, relics & Rairities (Incredibly awesome CD!! Nicky Moore's vocals are amazing!!! A lot of turmoil within the band and record company pretty much put an end to this late 80's band, what a shame)

Gemini Five--Babylon Rockets (Thank you Michael! Good CD, I really like "Automaticool" and "Chemicals between us" plus it's an enhanced CD with 2 bonus videos for "Babylon Rockets" and "You spin me round (like a record))

Thrillhammer - Giftless (pre Hazel Pete Krebs. This is the grunge stuff, rather than Hazel)

Pete Krebs & The Gossamer Wings - I Know it by Heart (more Krebs goodness)

Punk-O-Rama Vols 6 & 7 (got these for the Guttermouth tracks but lots of good stuff here. At $3 a peice a decent way to sample some other bands)

And here is my semi-periodical dollar bin find update.

Dozer - In the Tail of a Comet (stoner rock from Sweden. right in that Atomic Bitchwax ballpark. Awesome)

Tad - Inhaler (heavy rock. sound just like Metallica for the most part)

Samad - Samad (90% guitar instrumentals. Don't usually go for this but it was pretty good. Couldn't pass it up when I saw Paul Gilbert was on two tracks. Got to be Mikes influence there)

Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds (good bluesy rock)

Bullet Boys - Freakshow (includes a good Tom Waits cover but other than that it's pretty mediocre)

CIV - Set Your Goals (in the style of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones but not quite as good. worth a buck at least)

The Clergy - Ruami (Heavy Christian rock with a raspy voiced female singer. Includes some pretty decent tunes and some crap.)

Duke Mushroom - The Warriors (purchased it for the intriguing packaging but didn't get my hopes up. Good thing because it turned out to be dance mixes. At least a can get my groove on now)

Danger Danger--Screw it!...(it's okay, really only bought it for 1 song anyways)

Skin Yard--1000 smiling knuckles...(I got this on cassette in '91 or '92 and finally found it on CD! A good listen)

Hanoi Rocks--All Those Wasted Years * Live at the Marquee...(Hanoi Rocks ROCKS!)

The Donnas--Gold Medal...( Yet another awesome CD and again, not a bad song on the whole thing, I'm lovin it!!)

Eloy--Colours...(I absolutely LOVE this band, I can't thank you enough Michael!!!They are slowly but surly becoming one of my favorite bands EVER!!!)

Peppermint Creeps--Cover Up...(Kind sounds like Pretty Boy Floyd with a Marilyn Manson look, it's all cover songs and they cover a lot of different styles too!! more of this band in my future!)

The Wildhearts--Riff After Riff...(Thanks again Michael, this is a really good CD and I'm really liking their sound!!)

Tommy Shaw, Ritchie Kotzen, Edgar Winter, Gary Hoey, Greg Bissonette, Bob & Bruce Kulick, Jeff Scott Soto, Dweezil Zappa, Eric Singer, Ronnie Montrose and a whole lot more!!

I really like Pink Floyd so I lucked out with this one!!)

I am glad you got the cd. I have been a little worried. I am glad you are enjoying it. Eloy and the Donnas are very strong bands, so glad that Eloy has made that kind of impression on you. Hanoi Rocks is awesome. I love Michael Monroe. You got some mighty good stuff there. Maybe you and Chris should do a rock podcast

I heard it on Rock Dungeon

Guttermouth – The Album Formerly Known as Full Length LP (Thought I’d start at the beginning since I know I’ll be getting it all eventually. I’d put this one in the Dead Milkmen territory of music, which in my book is a great thing. Bruce Lee vs. the Kiss Army – the Guttermouth equivalent to Dean’s Dream?)

Pintsize – Five Feet .. No Inches (Loved the Judas Priest and Paula Abdul covers and of course My Fist, Your Face)

Sean Lennon – Into the Sun (Nothing on here that matches the two tunes you played on the show but the same great sound is there. A really good cd.)

    Completing the Krebs collection

    Golden Delicious – Old School
Golden Delicious – Live at the Laurelthirst
Hazel – Are you Going to Eat That
    Hazel – Airiana

    Dollar bin finds

The Beauties (Look like a cross between GnR and STP, including a Slash lookalike, sound is probably closer to LIVE. A good cd though. Band includes Jason Nesmith, son of The Monkees, Michael Nesmith. You might be getting these guys when you have your offspring show. )

The Beyond – Crawl (described in wiki as having prog, thrash, jazz and alt influences. I think it fits that bill)

The Cutthroats 9 (Heavy Rock. Like the music, the singer, not so much)
The Cutthroats 9 – Anger Management (ditto)

Oxymoron – Fuck the Nineties…Here’s Our Noize (Punk from Germany. Wouldn’t put this on the top of my punk pile but good none the less)
